We love a good fire!
Firestarters usually cost $12-20 a box. For those who have a wood fireplace like me, having a cozy fire on the weekends can be pretty expensive. Here is a DIY recipe of products that you use in your home to get the job done.
Candle wax (old candles are great)
Newspaper
Egg carton
Dryer lint
Lighter
Directions-
Put all of the candle wax into a pot on the stove
Tear paper into 6-7″ strips and then wad them up as tightly as possible.
Fill the sections of the egg carton up with the melted candle wax.
Stuff pieces of dryer lint into each section of wax.
Place the newspaper wads into the wax with a little bit of paper sticking out on the corners like a wick.
Close the container and place in the fridge for 15 minutes.
After it hardens, tear off sections of the egg carton, light the wick, and place in the fireplace.
To get the wax out of your pot, reheat for a second and wipe out any residue with an old rag.
If you are looking for wood, check the newspaper, Craigslist, or ask your friends about maybe ordering a half a truck load. This year I told my husband that we are not stopping at the grocery store and paying 6 bucks for 3 tiny little pieces of wood. Hopefully I will be with him when he's tempted, and tell him to walk fast and look the other way!
